Volvo TAMD41A:
oil filter
NAPA 1596 (not normally stocked but readily available by request, NAPA price $18.79). WIX 51596. Fram PH3306A (often stocked by West, but might only be one unit per store). Volvo 471034.
crankcase breather
Volvo 876069. NAPA 6106 (NAPA price $19.59).
secondary or fine fuel filter (the one on the engine)
NAPA 3472 (often stocked because it is used on many construction equipment diesels, NAPA price $14.79). Volvo 838593.
primary filter/water separator (the black cylinder mounted somewhere in the engine compartment aft of the engine)
Fram CCS1136. I bought a bunch this year because of a contamination problem, found really cheap ones on Amazon at a parts company (less then half the West price). The Fram fuel/water separator is not readily visible on the Fram site, they emphasis auto oil filters. Hamilton Marine carries these too (unless I bought out stock remainder this year). So ask your vendor specifically even if they have a web presence...lack of visibility does not mean lack of availability. Also found at West, but only one unit or so per store (in my crisis this summer, I visited multiple stores).
Air filter
Volvo 858488. NAPA says the equivalent is 2473 (NAPA price $36.20). I've been told that the NAPA is exactly the Volvo (only one manufacture of this filter).
NAPA prices listed: from NAPAonline. Local store pricing can vary (often lower), and other discounts might apply at a store (like AAA membership discount).

Volvo TAMD40B, WIX replacements:
Oil filter: WIX 51596 $19.38
Fine fuel filter: WIX 33358 $11.34
Crankcase breather: WIX 46106 $20.15
Air filter: WIX 46111 $9.23
My local auto parts store doesn't carry these in stock, but was able to get them next day for me.
Volvo TAMD40B, other part numbers
Engine zincs: Volvo Penta 838929 Retail $7.07
Impeller kit: Volvo Penta 875736 Retail $74.17
I have a Racor R24S (2 micron) as my primary, that was installed by the prior owner at the beginning of the season. It has worked out just fine, but I don't think it makes sense to have a 2 micron primary and 10 micron secondary. I plan to replace my racor with a R24T (10 micron) or R24P (30 micron) for next season.

Additional oil filter:
Baldwin B447
http://www.baldwin-filters.com
I see that Associated Diesel in Boston has these on the web for $15.93.
http://www.adiesel.com/baldwinfilters/B447.html
I also see that Baldwin has an equivalent of the Fram CCS1136 fuel-water separator. Look for Baldwin PF936.
Associated Diesel has these too. Cost is much higher than the cheapest Fram CCS1136 I had found, at $16.02 each.
http://www.adiesel.com/baldwinfilters/PF936.html
The Baldwin filters site looks like it has a very useful (e.g. complete) cross reference OEM filter capability. For example, for the PF936 filter above, it shows a Purolator, WIX, NAPA, and other vendor equivalent. I didn't try searching yet using Volvo part numbers to see what comes out...I'll leave that for another forum message.
BUT...I'm told by others that some commercial equipment manufacturers will not allow a Baldwin filter, or their warranty will be void. Field experience thus says there may be a quality issue with Baldwin filters. Be forewarned.

I got fabulous prices from www.filterbarn.com. They shipped promptly and everything arrived in good condition. All the equivalent numbers from their web site fit OK.
They didn't carry all the WIX equivalents though. Does anyone know of a good online source for WIX?
My CD 30 has TAMD41B's. The filters:
Oil filter - Volvo 471034 - I used WIX 51596 ($3.42)
Fuel filter - Volvo 860874 (later 3588378) - I ordered Fleetguard FS1251 just because it was the most expensive ($6.71) and they had the most in stock. It fit but was a bit smaller and had a water drain plug, which isn't necessary with a primary filter in the system. WIX lists 33358 as equivalent but filterbarn didn't carry it.
Crankcase breather - Volvo 876069 - I couldn't find an equivalent. Is this the same part number as the TAMD40B, for which JoeBoater listed a WIX equivalent above?
Air filter - Volvo 858488. I got a Fram CA9241 ($9.59).
After I ordered, a knowledgeable boater friend told me that Fram is not the highest quality, but WIX is very good. I respect his opinion so am passing it on FWIW. The Fram air filter had maybe 20% fewer pleats than the Volvo filter it replaced.
Thanks to the previous posters for the encouragement to order non-Volvo filters. |

| Just contacted Filterbarn and they are sending me quantity (6) the Fram CCS1136 filters @ $7.29 ea. Looks like they will get anything you want if you are willing to buy a case. Best prices I have seen anywhere. Thanks Walt. |

BTW WIX makes NAPA filters. The numbers are a '5' lead digit for Wix and the remaining common for both WIX and NAPA.
Example:
Eng Oil Filter (Volvo #471034) Wix 51596 NAPA 1596 |

bilofsky,
yes, I believe the crankcase breather is the same. As comodone mentioned, Wix makes NAPA, so I'd just find a NAPA and get the one that Ned listed: NAPA 6106.
I'm having trouble finding Wix around here, so I've switched completely over to NAPA now. Much easier for me to locate and apparently just as good. |

Update May 30 2009:
The NAPA online web site
Air Filter (Gold) FIL 2473, $41.99 (TAMD41A air filter)
Air Filter (Gold) FIL 6101, $21.99 (crankcase breather)
Note that your local NAPA store sets their own prices and discounts; you are likely to get or be able to negotiate a lower price (or find somebody with a local discount account).
(the volvo 858488 filter was just $44.48 from McDonnell Marine, an excellent Volvo parts dealer in Bloomfield, CT: http://www.mcdonnellmarine.com) |

Update May 30 2009:
From the WIX online web site:
TAMD41A air filter
WIX air filter 42473 http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=42473
TAMD41A crankcase breather
WIX air filter 46106 http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=46106
WIX filters are not sold online by WIX, but through local auto parts/truck parts retailers. You will find some retailers on the web, though.
These WIX numbers are specifically for the Volvo 41 series marine engines; they are unlikely to be in stock. I picked the first two online retailers from a Google search; neither offered the above WIX parts...your local retailer could order them I'm sure.
from National Filters (http://www.nationalfilters.com), I found the 42473 for $19.70 and the 46106 for $10.62. Found by searching for "WIX 46106". |

Update: Having problems with one of my turbos, and the mechanic asked about the micron rating of the fuel filter. Turns out the Fleetguard FS1251 is only 10 micron (it says "20 micron with 10 micron 2nd pass). The Volvo spec is 2 micron. So I no longer recommend the Fleetguard as a substitute.
(I had the same turbo problem four years ago when I was only using Volvo filters, so would not necessarily blame the filter. But the secondary fuel filter really should be 2 microns.)
From comments I've googled, the WIX 33358 is also 10 microns.
Does anyone know if any of the substitute fuel filters are 2 or 3 micron? |
